Assessing health risk and intervention
The latest guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence on the assessment of the health risk arising from obesity and associated interventions.

  • For men, waist circumference of less than 94 cm is low, 94–102 cm is high and more than 102 cm is very high.
  • For women, waist circumference of less than 80 cm is low, 80–88 cm is high and more than 88 cm is very high.
The  level of intervention for discussion with patients is guided by the following table (with the level of intervention higher for patients with comorbidities (see assess lifestyle comorbidities and willingness to change), regardless of their waist circumference
