Sandy Bates – 4 days with Riccardo Russo and Juliana Proserpio from Brazil when they came to Wilmington NC. Partnering to launch Design Echoes in the US – combine Stanford dSchool thinking with scientific rigor to create a robust set of tools for use in a series of workshops for corporations and kids about social innovation. Maybe connection with Edison Awards to create programs for schools who lack funding, in training kids in creative thinking. Mina Arasteh will speak on panel at Edison Awards on water conservation. Global Gov Jam – anyone can host at the local level: brainstorm ideas on recruiting government to work at local level 6/3-4/14

1. Mei Lin – Met Waldo Soto Bruna from Chile, introduced by Kimberly Wiefling – a social entrepreneur determined to introduce social enterprise training into higher education starting at his own university Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Just Airbnb-hosted 2 young people from Brazil at Bonsai Garden Inn.

Michael Norwood – Attended RightsCon Silicon Valley - 700 attendees from more than 65 countries and 375 institutions attended Many humanitarians amongst the human rights activists: digital rights & privacy. See F4H providing a network for follow-up.

Rob Stephenson – Met with Stan Gould on metrics for F4H, plan to meet with Valerie Landau and incorporate these metrics in her tool for outcomes assessment

Linda Staheli – Had a good discussion with Kennan, working on international science & technology space with grand challenges. Spoke with Marje re: Film festival idea in DC focusing on youth of DC and the dreams and Martin Luther King’s vision and message. Spent last Friday attending conference on innovation and development bringing together UC Berkeley and Georgetown – speakers. Good Debategraph session with David Price, with Brian Donohue – nice overview of Debategraph.org Talking with Brie and one of her network on Dyslexia – David, Linda and Brie’s contact will get together to do Debategraph on Dyslexia. Design for social innovation out of NYC – Graduate school program for people designing new approaches to social innovation, international – MFA.

John Mattison- Loved the direction and charter of F4H and where its all headed, very well aligned. Coming up, speaking at 2 relevant meetings – local governments of California meeting in Yosemite March 13-16, will be speaking on local health about building community resilience. White House Office of Science Technology Policy meeting at NYU Law School March 17 – societal and social impact around privacy and technology – will give update next week

Kevin Montgomery- Upgraded Collaborate.org file manager, works like drop box, ready to deploy a bunch of things for the portal – meeting with Kennan to bring folks up to speed www.humanity.collaborate.org

Kimberly King – last year in relationship with Social innovation Impact hub network including the hub in Brazil – Bela Horizonte – setting up partnership with Sweden – Wise women in innovation – connected with others in Brazil expanding that program – partner in Sweden from Brazil. Part of the Impact Hub Network –specific hubs in certain cities. Back from Atlanta visited Marje and others during International Women’s Day and International Women’s Think-tank – met with Senator Donzella James. Shared with others who heard about F4H – accelerated excitement to bring more information to Atlanta and maybe host a session there. Several Tech companies – Dean Kamen’s network – Georgia First – robotics fair and science competition for kids – pursuing a partnership back in Atlanta in 2 weeks and how all these can connect as well as International Women in Technology – Atlanta Hub and Tech hub – launching camp for girls – youth and innovation as well as entrepreneurship. Now at 57th session of the UN conference on the status of women – trying to pull together roundtable tomorrow night – will report next week.

Kennan – working on online platform, developing that with Kevin Montgomery. Conversation with Linda Staheli was fabulous - Linda is a Washington Insider. Been working on the F4H videos – listening to you all – annotating to put on to the YouTube channel in a way that you can point people to it so info can be shared more widely. Will be setting up blog of blogs on humanity.collaborate.org & have RSS feeds, so it becomes an aggregating place – start trying it out. Science and Technology – The Rainforest by Victor Hwang – edging towards notion that what we need is to create an institute that works on culture and how we do business together, awakening possibility of human collaboration – very explicit at the F4H and I will bring that to the science domain – open the floodgates for that.

Roberta – Today is the anniversary of Fukushima disaster – friend of Roberta, Japanese artists and anti-nuclear activist, underway predicted today’s protests. John Mattison has a design that can resolve their ongoing issues of contamination. Call to action to F4H community to assist in connecting John with Japan officials. (Michael Norwood, Jonathan Trent, Jim Caldwell, Linda Staheli were connected via email to John during the call)

James Caldwell - speaking with Jonathan about Omega in China – linked with Blue Economy group in China – John Trepoli’s (spelling?) group – want to integrate a full Blue economy which includes things like Omega and waste energy

Michael Norwood – Wave energy converter more efficient – spoke with Jonathan Trent who connected me with his gifted videographer – Amy Ng and I may be doing some things together- in reference to another patent related to auto accident, Amy was with Ford Motor Company. Still trying to get in touch with Brian Donohue.

Japan Connection – Fukushima Anniversary (3/11)

Roberta English’s friend, artist Mayumi Oda anticipated the current protests. John Mattison has a design to resolve ongoing issues of contamination – Linda Staheli, Michael Norwood, Jim Caldwell and Jonathan Trent are helping this move forward. Linda suggests the “…. Fund” and will introduce Paul Harrell. Jonathan Trent will connect John Mattison to JETRO

UK Connection (3/11)

Innovation Park kick off in London, lead by PM David Cameron. John Mattison will be speaking at the Founders Forum in June, Richard Branson + 100 colleagues. Kennan suggests John meet with Roland Jackson, head of UK Science Lab and will do email intro. Mei Lin suggests John meet David Price of Debategraph while in London.

Open Standards in health and health sciences (3/11)

John Mattison was founder of the Health XML Exchange. Genomic Consortium has been actively supported by the Welcome Trust. Big gaps here and in Electronic Health Record Interoperability. Mei Lin will introduce John to Charles Goldfarb. Tm Berlyn, Kennan and Linda Staheli interested. Jim Caldwell interested in standards was deeply involved in the development of the Unicode standard. Charles Goldfarb has indicated interest in beginning conversation with John Mattison (3/14)

OMEGA (3/11)

Jonathan Trent is serendipitously meeting with Japanese government outreach organization JETRO – linking Japan with other parts of the world –Professors at Truro university starting OMEGA project in Kyoto at prefecture near Tokyo. Met with Michael Norwood – have OGI – Omega Global Initiative collecting data from places around the world. Dutch expert on algae as a graduate student lived on island – near Venezuela, a former Dutch colony, interesting developments. With Fukushima anniversary, this area has Japanese attention – big furor about re-opening nuclear power plants – so they are pushing hard for alternative energy – focus on geothermal – real interest in bio projects like OMEGA. Just been nominated for world bio energy award. Continue on a daily basis, pushing out connections in network to get people interested in this project. Collaboration Tools (3/11)

Michael Norwood will schedule demo with Mei Lin. Kennan will test out WAZI with CHC. Missing utility – how to create intelligent connections around collaborations as they proliferate – need to semi-automate connections to augment our human intuition and instinct for connection- John Mattison. Need tool to match outputs offered and inputs needed- Tim Berlyn.
