UIMA (unstructure info managament arcitecture) is the machine that was the coordinating agent that allowed Watson to win Jeopardy and was then released by IBM to the open source community. We are taking UIMA, harvesting agents that have been developed in the open source community and developing futher agents in order to create SolrSherlock. SolrSherlok will function as a personalised information gathering tool that identifies and presents to a human (and their advisors eg. their doctor) the relevant sybolised knowledge related to any topic of enquiry that this human may need to know about.

UIMA is an agent facilitator. It was other agents within Watson that did most of the work in the process of winning Jeopardy.
