Our next natural question is— “Who will create, and do, knowledge federation?” or “Who will create and put into practice the knowledge-work systems that are capable of doing knowledge federation?” We again name the answer ‘Knowledge Federation’ (community), and we describe it tentatively as follows: Knowledge Federation is the transdiscipline for knowledge federation. Notice that the conventional disciplinary organization in knowledge work is not the answer. We let the transdiscipline be the name of a complementary and remedial organizational form, where experts and stakeholders from a suitable combination of backgrounds come together to work on a question or design task of contemporary interest. Knowledge Federation creates the transdiscipline model by bootstrapping (using itself as prototype or sandbox).
