Able to exploit Local Area Agreements
Local authorities best placed to promote drug services effectively through the Local Area Agreements—a mechanism (soon to be statutory) for pooling the resources of different agencies in order to address complex and interconnected local problems.
The current priority areas for which Local Area Agreements may be negotiated are ‘safer and stronger communities’, ‘healthier communities and older people’ and ‘children and young people’. Drug misuse is obviously a key area of concern under all of these headings.
