Context Drives Sustainability Metrics
Philosophical perspectives of the implicit "mission" of society frame the context of a business organization. Diverse implicit societal missions from various cultural perspectives exist that complicate context. Hence the need for robustness and 'creative destruction' in a sustainable model.
The modern conservative versus progressive beliefs in how best to manage our mix of ideals, responsibilities, entitlements, wealth generation, enjoyment of the social commons, liberty and responsibility in the light of limited resources (or the hope of creating new resource to compensate), the ideas of growth for economic sustainabilty versus natural frugality and minimalist needs all shape differing views of sustainability.  Do we first need to pick one 'context' or more likely, define a robust definition of sustainability that can evolve as does the context of our societal (national and global) reality.
