Hamas offered a ceasefire just prior to the Israeli attack

Yuval Diskin, head of Shin Bet, told the Israeli cabinet on 23 December that Hamas was interested in continuing the truce in return for an end to the blockade of Gaza, and an Israeli ceasefire on the West Bank.
