Extra Dimensions

Some theories draw on additional space dimensions, particulary those which try to unify gravitation and the other three forces affecting fundamental particles (electromagnetic, weak, and strong forces). These dimensions would explain why gravitation looks so weak compared to the other three, and be small enough to have escaped detection in our experiments until now. While a sign of their reality remains to be found, no fundamental principle precludes such extra dimensions.
