Particle Detectors

A device used to take measurements during an experiment. It can be a telescope's camera sensitive to photons of a specific wavelength, or a device which absorbs a particle's energy and emits an electric signal proportional to its value. The term "detector" is also used to describe the huge composite devices made of numerous smaller detectors. In the LHC large detectors each layer carries out a very specific task.
