How Vraylar works
Partial agonism at dopamine 2 receptors; When dopamine high, reduces output---> improve positive symptoms & mediate antipsychotic actions; When dopamine low, increases output--->improve cognitive, negative, and mood symptoms; Preferentially binds to dopamine 3 over dopamine 2 receptors at low doses---> decrease negative symptoms; D3 partial agonism--> Rx cognition, mood, emotions, and reward/substance use; Serotonin 1A (partial agonist) & 2B (antagonist) Serotonin 2A receptors (antagonist)
