Map: Gulf Oil Spill disaster (2010)

Although started to illuminate the events surrounding the BP Gulf oil spill disaster that commenced April 20 2010, this "map" has turned into an example of news cartography, a term we use to describe a mechanism for capturing the contextual, fluid development of large-scale stories.

This project went live June 6, 2010 but has been updated only sporadically since August 1, 2010.

Note that the map connects to the 2016 "Pollution" map via the "Ocean Oil Spills" cross-link.
