Without affecting the structure of the underlying network, the user could hide some of the nodes that s/he finds not relevant to the current trail. Such a feature would reinforce the user's feeling of control and stability (as opposed to a feeling of disorder and confusion)

□
2. Let the user control the collapse and expansion of nodes
□
3. Node to node switching could remain the default behaviour
□
4. But a "Ctrl-Click" could just expand-collapse the clicked node
