Example: Tampa incident where a mother threw her child into the ocean.

You may find yourself appalled and horified at the thought of someone throwing their own child into the ocean.

How can any mother throw her own child into the ocean?

But place yourself in her situation. You and your child would die if these Australians refused the ship entry. You see Australians in the next ship, all eyes on the ship you are in. You know that at least one of them would attempt to rescue her child if you throw him in the ocean. The child would be rescued and receive medical care. If the Australians still refuse your ship entry, your child at least would have a chance to live.
