France

France has both a civilian and military nuclear capability.

"The next Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference will be held from 3 to 28 May 2010 in New York. It is a major meeting for the international nuclear non-proliferation regime.

France is fully committed to ensuring the success of this event. We need to make the most of this opportunity to work towards a safer world in which all NPT goals can be achieved, whether they be non-proliferation, disarmament or access to peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

We hope that a concrete and realistic action plan can be adopted at the 2010 Review Conference in these three areas. Together with its European partners, France has put forward proposals as part of an ambitious programme that would genuinely help make our world safer.

We need to build a new nuclear order keyed to the NPT and the realities of the real world. France will advocate this idea with determination in May 2010 in New York and beyond."
