Affordances are features of the environment

Affordances are directly perceived higher-order properties of things in the environment—eg water affords swimming and floating, foods afford eating etc. They're envrionmental factors that an organism directly "picks-up" in order to maintain itself.

Affordances aren't representations used as guides.
