Energy yields are dropping globally

Unlike the original oil gushers, many new oil & gas finds take more energy to exploit. Examples: shale fractionation for gas; heating tar sands for oil; moving more earth for coal. If more earth must be disturbed, more pollution can be expected, with more NIMBY movements opposing it.
