Why do we need DG maps?

We need DG maps to give us, the map-readers, the fastest route through the route space. What does that mean? Mapping a new terrain, a new landscape, can be difficult work but, once accomplished, those who possess the map can navigate quickly to their journey's end. In the case of knowledge mapping, "journey's end" is action. A good knowledge map eliminates repetition from the discussion at hand. Once an item has been mapped it no longer needs to be brought up again. The virtue of space-based discussion over time-based discussion becomes clear. And once repetition is eliminated and all options and information are mapped there is nothing left but action -- which takes place off the map but can be reported on the map.
