Harm Reduction

Somebody wrote to me today: "It is no longer a matter of saving the planet" ... my thought today is that we could if we had the will to do so. I've come across the "One Degree War Plan" which would get us back to safety -- but it would require the top seven or eight countries to all pull together in a global "war" effort. I think it unlikely. So we are headed for bad territory.

Nevertheless there will be a new generation living in it, so I think we can't just throw up our hands. We must do all we can to minimize the damage that's being done. For example, if not everybody gives up flying, those who do so are helping minimize the damage. If not everybody becomes a vegan, those who do are minimizing the damage. Those who buy an electric car are minimizing the damage. Those who calculate their carbon footprint and buy carbon offsets are minimizing the damage. It's all down to harm reduction, in a sense.

I've started work on a new map: "What can Individuals do in the 21st Century?" I really, over the next few weeks, want to explore what people can do. It's a relatively small task, I think, but an important one. If you want a sneak peek, the map is here: http://debategraph.org/21irpv in Page View.
