8. Economic Growth
No proposals in the e-Inventory call for a goal on economic growth on its own, rather advocating instead for ‘sustainable’ and ‘green’ economic growth, as well as the need to build the resilience of economies.
Focus area 8. Economic growth No proposals in the e-Inventory call for a goal on economic growth on its own, rather advocating instead for ‘sustainable’ and ‘green’ economic growth, as well as the need to build the resilience of economies. The emphasis on a particular kind of growth rather than just economic growth being an end in itself is also reflected in the targets included under goals on this issue. This suggests that stakeholders share the views of the OWG that growth is essential for poverty eradication, however only if it is inclusive and environmentally sound – something which should be taken into consideration when choosing the precise language used should this focus area be translated into a goal in the final framework.
