Madalena Cabral was born in 1922, in Porto. She was a pioneer in the introduction, qualification and promotion of teaching services within Portuguese museums.
At the age of twenty, she moved to Lisbon, where she completed the course of Decorative Arts of the António Arroio School, subsequently launching her professional career at the National Museum of Ancient Art. In 1953, she implemented a service of scholar extension, without precedent in Portugal, which would be the genesis of the educational program of this museum.   
As member of the Movement of Renovation of Religious Art – created in the early 1950s, with the intent of granting higher dignity and plastic quality to Portuguese religious architecture and art – she contributed to the renewal of the vestments.
In 1985, Madalena Cabral was distinguished as Official of the Order of St. James of the Sword. In 2013, she received the Personality of the Year Prize from the Portuguese Association of Museology.
She died on the 24^th of January of 2015.

Madalena Cabral nasceu em 1922 no Porto. Foi Pioneira da introdução, qualificação e divulgação dos serviços educativos nos museus em Portugal. Aos vinte anos foi viver para Lisboa, onde fez o curso de Artes Decorativas da Escola António Arroio, e começou a trabalhar no Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (MNAA). Em 1953, quando João Couto era diretor do MNAA, lançou um serviço de extensão escolar que seria pioneiro em Portugal e génese do serviço educativo deste museu.

Contribuiu igualmente para a renovação da paramentaria no âmbito do MRAR, criado no início dos anos 50 do século XX com vista à elevação da arquitetura religiosa e da arte sacra em Portugal a uma maior dignidade e qualidade plástica.

Em 1985, foi distinguida com o grau de Oficial da Ordem de S. Tiago da Espada. Foi também distinguida com o Prémio Personalidade do ano 2013 pela Associação Portuguesa de Museologia (APOM).
