Design Strategy and Vision for a future we want

Universal approach applies as a means part of the communication and means to implementation.

MIKE 2.0 Introduction and Table of Contents
The Information Management Strategy of MIKE2.0 provides a set of activities to be implemented using a Blueprint/Roadmap style of delivery.

Blueprint
The Blueprint is both:
  • a relatively high-level vision for developing the envisaged future-state
  • a model that defines the prioritized transitions to get there.

The Blueprint is multifaceted. For one, it encompasses organization, people, process, and technology. More than that, however, it provides the solution definition driven by the established IT Principles and business priorities.

Roadmap
The Roadmap provides the strategy for each piece of the solution to be implemented. This approach enables continuous development through increment-based delivery. What's more, it accommodates the rapid changes occurring within most business environments. This strategy is appropriate for both large-scale initiatives and more tactical projects delivered within the strategic context.

The Information Architecture provides the technology solution framework for MIKE2.0 through the SAFE Architecture. The Information Architecture transcends applications, data, and infrastructure. It was designed to accommodate the inherent complexities of a highly federated organization. Further, it covers a range of capabilities:
  • from the foundational for the majority of project implementations
  • advanced capabilities now emerging in the area of Enterprise Information Management

Each Solution Offering uses an architecturally-driven approach that moves from a conceptual vision of the architecture to a set of strategic vendor products. After that, it moves into a solution architecture and design for each increment or phase. It provides a number of Supporting Assets potentially used as starting points in defining the architecture. The Information Architecture framework also acts as one of the Foundational Solutions of MIKE2.0.

The Information Governance (IG) aspects of MIKE2.0 take a comprehensive approach to this problem. Whilst there is consensus that IG includes Data Quality Management, it is difficult to obtain a consistent definition for the other aspects of the term. Because Information Management (IM) is a relatively new field, practitioners have focused almost exclusively on what they know.  They have been wary of the more ambiguous aspects of governance such as:
  • Information Lifecycle Management (ILM)
  • Information Auditing
  • Return on Investment (ROI) management

As a result, the starting point for the solution is a consistent definition of this area while concurrently recognizing that it will evolve. It then provisions assets related to people, process, organization, and technology required for improved IG. The IG framework also acts as one of the Foundational Solutions of MIKE2.0.
