SSE Social Solidarity Economy in the Post-2015 Agenda François Gave First Councilor for Development, Permanent Mission of France to the UN

Mr. Gave stated that France is quite supportive of the social and solidarity economy (SSE), which covers such practices as:  self-management, solidarity lending, local exchange trading systems, fair trade organizations, worker cooperatives, give-away shops, and trade unions—thus economy for the common good. He said that SSE has three common features: 1) It is not profit driven; 2) it is bottom-up and people-centered; and 3) it seeks to address the plague of poverty in an environmentally-friendly manner.   He suggested that SSE should be included in the Post 2015 agenda; and that it could be a game-changer in terms of making things happen.  Here are five reasons why:
