When definitions change, experiment must be repeated.

Many of the protocols of observation and method are intimately intertwined with the definitions of what is observed. When those definitions change, the outcomes themselves must be reexamined for validity under the assumptions and protocols applied to the trial or experiment. 

This is one of the conundrums of scientific progress. When the definitions change, the experiment must be repeated with different protocols and different outcome assessments.
