Stephan Andrew http://www.pacificrimeco.comBerkeley team is working on water projects in central China – recycling, re-use. Biomimicry as a model for eco system development. Proposed model: Smart Buildings and Built Environments will have energy to empower stakeholders and their ecosystems when internal and external energies are dynamically balanced; They fail when they become too rigid, waste resources or fall too far out of balance. Buildings, like natural living systems, must evolve internally and externally as other systems in their universe change. “Energy,” “Economy” and “Environment” are symbolic of many variables -- including people, families, communities and organizations of all kinds; power grids, food, water/waste management systems and the communication/transportation systems that connect them. The opportunity is to create and maintain smart, dynamically balanced buildings and built environments that optimize the available energy/resource mix and empower the resilient development of smart people, buildings, built environments and ecosystems. Spread it sideways e.g. include the Life Club Rotary International Contact:Marje’ Etheridge | Final word – June 17 meeting Jonathan - when I was a graduate student, the lab I was working in had a guest scientist did controversial experiments published in Nature - tried to replicate using the same equipment - I showed that everything he did was not real, even tho peer reviewed and published in Nature. I called the technician who did the work, to find out exactly what was done, so then I COULD replicate the results. As long as scientists are funded and recognized based on “First” and they will not publish their methods. We should no longer use the primitive technique of acknowledging scientists, and shift to give people scores based on their reputation - a more complex network for evaluating reliability - it could liberate the scientific community, maybe a new list for Science like “Angie’s list” Mei Lin: We could call it “Kennans’ list” Roberta - grass roots life is personal - there is a movement to not take in people (with vouchers for housing) - it is becoming such a hardship for the mental health. We need to change our own attitudes about people who are already in need. Jonathan - might our network be able to help evaluating the people we work with? Tammy and Randy Farmer may be able to help with reputation scales. Denise - final word is stars and moon. we all shine brightly - keep on shining - shine your light on other people and give them the spotlight - give them a little confidence they can do their job. everyone have a great week
