There are many sites that make music accessible legally, and for cheap
The article I read for this week addressed specifically the multitude of web sites that are currently available that undercut Apple yet are still Ipod compatible. If artist chose to not work with consumers and continue to think only of revenue they will lose fans and business.
The article discussed the several sites currently available where internet downloading is relatively cheap and legal. One of the main points was how Apple discovered a new market and revolutionized the music industry in both good and bad ways. Everyone can agree that the invention of the Ipod has been one of significance during our lifetime. Being able to buy music one song at a time, instead of the entire album from a variety of artist digitally then take it with you in a small convenient package is great. However with the easy download of music came a relatively untouched market of downloading and file sharing illegally. Although as most of us who have pirated music in the past may remember illegal downloading was around before the Ipod, however the market was never as saturated until after the mp3 player became the new “it” thing. As the article explains in an effort to keep illegal downloading to a minimum yet still make people the billions they so crave there are a multitude of web sites that are devoted to underselling one another on single songs. The idea is that they are cheaper than Apple, and users can still get the same quality and selection without breaking the law. It gives options to the user that when the Ipod first came out they did not have as Ipods were only compatible with music bought from the Apple store. Now that there are ways around it people are trying to cash in, and although illegal downloading is still an ongoing thing some people have cashed in on the idea that there are legal ways that are not super expensive.
