Mathematical biology, category theory, Robert Rosen etc.

Like Varela Rosen places an emphasis on the importance of the environment. Rosen was a mathematical biologist. Jack Park is very familiar with his work

Robert Rosen's book that Jack has suggested is entitled: Life Itself. Judith Rosen is his daughter and she is actively promoting his work. Rosen was a grad student of Rashevsky.

John Kineman has begun to extend Rosen's work.

Louie is the only grad student of Rosen who used is work.

Nicholas Rashevsky was the first person to start usefully applying mathematics to biology.
"Topology and Life" is a good place to start reading his stuff.

Other stuff Jack mentioned but doesn't have electronic copies of include:
John Macnamara and Gonzalo E. Reyes, eds: the logical foundations of cognition

F. William Lawvere and Stephen H. Schanuel: Conceptual Mathematics: A first introduction to categories
