At minute 4:30 Jim Caldwell presents Bridging Cultures: the China-US Green Energy Council. Jim shares the mishaps that occur in sustainable building practices when holistic approaches and thinking are not employed.

Taking the time to bridge cultural divides and include care to different view-points leads to robust relationships. Jim notes that marriages have the most trouble when people grow up in the same city, seemingly from the same culture, and have no clue why they don't understand each other.

In working in the domain of green-building design, harmonious and sustainable development requires the following factors, integrated in a holistic manner: Individual innovation, environmental protection, energy conservation, people-oriented, competition, collaboration, resource regeneration, and organizational innovation. These principles come from the basic tenets of balance from ancient Chinese wisdom.

Jim also works on stake-holder education and stake-holder envisioning to achieve visionary goals. One such project included organizing One Million children in China to paint their vision of the future of the environment. One hundred of their paintings toured museums around the United States, creating a future of engaged 5-15 yr olds who are now adults focused on achieving these goals together.
