ERP systems are the system of record for all customer master records
A unique set of tools often compliment the ERP master record types with Master Data Management tools which supply the more analytical versus the operational purpose of ERP.
Data Quality tools - must be designed well and maintain the records and change procedures according to the corporate policies.
In nearly all cases, software purchased from 3rd party vendors will have a feature to add customers. These do not ship with the revenue recognition requirements for Due Diligence.
The majority of the data quality issues in nearly all companies or agencies has two primary points of failure,
a) The Extract, Transform and Load or Integration technology is a custom in house development project which doesn't use the same key controls as the source or system of record.
b) In fact, the Key control owner isn't aware that data paths or small business intelligence applications are built everyday and most often makes a copy of the customer master for the specific use of the in house developed applications.
c)An application is defined by Information Security terms as any technical action performing a create or get statements.
d) The many dependencies associated with a customer includes an ability to report performance under revenue recognition rules and materiality. The Security Exchange Commission requires all businesses, organizations and the various levels of government must provide the same key controls.
