Social Rate of Return from expenditure on scientific research

Estimates vary but the economic, or social rate of return on publicly funded scientific research could be in the range of over 20–45 % per year, compounded year on year. The greater and more rapid the access to the findings of research the greater the potential prospect of achieving and increasing economic benefit.
