HWT-PT: Eugene Gendlin's Focusing Process

Practitioner's will need to be trained in Eugene Gendlin's Focusing Process.

Demonstrating their ability to use this for themselves will be an aspect of their reflective journal.

This could also be made into a presentation exercise whereby the practitioner demonstrates their ability to teach this process to a client and to spot the times where it could be used in a session. They will also need to demonstrate how they will show the client when and how to use this process in their lives.

Practitioner's  will receive a handout that outlines this process in simple terms and provides an example. They will also watch a video of Alexandra using this process with a client and possibly present a case study in which they do the same.

Gendlin's book: Focusing can be used as a resource here and there are more resources in the resource library in Chch and on the net - his organisation is now international.

Art therapy can be used to deepen client's 'resonating' step. I can teach the exercises I learnt from past trainings here, including using the soul cards and other cards that are evocative. The 'resonating' step is the one that will be difficult for CFS clients as they have trouble getting into their senses, feelings and body/soma. I can create exercises for each of the senses. Art therapy tends to work well for people who are very visual. Body scanning is also useful as is using the breath.
