Top Five Harry Potter Characters (excluding Harry, Ron, and Hermione)
5. Rubeus Hagrid
Hagrid has been around ever since the very first film and whether his role was large or small his presence has always been felt. He’s also the first character we meet in the entire series as he comes riding through the air on his famous motorbike in the opening of Sorcerer’s Stone. He not only offers a great sense of comic relief for the films but he also provides a lot of the heart as he is truly a sensitive and sympathetic character.
Hagrid’s Best Film: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
4. Severus Snape
Sure we are all supposed to hate Snape, I mean he is one of the foulest characters in the Potter universe and Professor Dumbledore dies at his hands, or should I say wand. But for those that have read the books you know he’s not all bad and most of his actions are quite forgivable when all is said and done. Not to mention Alan Rickman completely nails it in this role of a lifetime.
Snape’s Best Film: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
3. Bellatrix Lestrange
How can anyone not remember Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter films? I mean she is behind some of the most tragic deaths in the series and her entire demeanor is not only vile, but also truly terrifying. Like Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter shines in this devilish role and makes her all the more frightening.
Bellatrix’s Best Film: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.
2. Sirius Black
Poor, poor Sirius Black. This guy has got one tough life. First he is wrongly accused for the murder of his best friends, spends a long period of time in Azkaban prison, only to finally escape and be murdered two years later by Bellatrix Lestrange. Even though Sirius’ presence is somewhat short in the Potter universe, it is without a doubt memorable. Sirius manages to go from being a terrifying and mysterious character to one of the sweetest and tragic wizards in the whole saga. Gary Oldman is almost unrecognizable in this performance.
Sirius’ Best Film: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
1.Dobby the House-Elf
And number 1 on my list is without a doubt Dobby the house-elf. He made his first appearance in Part II of the series and I fell in love immediately. His naivety and charm is undeniable and his loyalty to Harry Potter is heartwarming. All the more tragic is his devastating death in the latest film that literally almost brought me to tears. R.I.P. Dobby, you won’t be forgotten!
