Congestion imposes costs on UK industry

Road congestion and poor transport infrastructure are estimated to cost UK industry around £17 billion per annum.

The British Chambers of Commerce 2006 Transport Survey "Waiting in Line", found that the inadequacies of UK infrastructure cost the economy £17 billion per annum.

"On average, the annual cost of transport problems per company is estimated to be £18k, rising to £27k for those with 50 to 99 employees, £38k for those with 100 to 249 employees and £70k for those with 250+ employees. If this pattern reflects the national picture then the cost to UK business is just over £17bn per annum."
