Scale and speed of transactions

The scale of investments in individual countries is immense. For example, recorded land transfers between 2004 and 2009 amount to 4 million ha in Sudan, 2.7 million ha in Mozambique, 1.2 million ha in Ethiopia, and 1 million ha in Cambodia.

Globally the extent of farmland investments is unknown but estimates range from 40 to 227 million ha, which are either under negotiation or already leased or sold.
