Foreign investment in African land
There has been a recent spate of investments, especially in Africa, which has led to large swathes of land being sold or leased to foreign parties.
Investors often come from regions with limited arable land and/or water, and food security concerns, such as the Middle East and Eastern and Southern Asia, among others.
Investments are agreed between a range of public and private sector actors from both the host and investor countries, including national governments, food traders, representatives from agribusiness, and speculators.
