Baseball is seen as a symbol of independance and nationalism

At the end of the revolution against Spanish dominance, baseball became a big part of Cuban life and continued to be an expression of resistance. Identified with the struggle for independence from Spain, baseball continues to this day to be synonymous with Cuban identity and nationalism.
