According to DiNitto "Some people would have us think that race relations have improved tremendously in the United States. Other sway us to believe that the country remains deeply divided along racial lines."

" Pointing to police brutality against people of color, racial profiling, disproportionate arrest and conviction rates, inquity in public education, housing, employment and wages, and infringements on voting rights" (p. 474).
