Variation in the global ocean’s Meridional Overturning Circulation—resulting from changes in the Atlantic Thermohaline Circulation and deep water Surrounding Antarctica Subsidence—is the likely cause of most of the global warming observed since the 1850s (and most since the mid-1970s).
