self-organising or self directed?

"self-organising" suggests elements, or nodes, which probably is understood as people

multi-agent modelling best describes the dynamics, and flocking is a good instance

there is no "flock" in individual bird movement, so there is no "we" in straight self-organising

So should we rename this self directed?

I would rather think of "self-organizing" as part of such people centered concepts as "crowd sourcing" and independent 'wisdom circles' of folks voluntarily gathered to resolve a specific problem or problems.
