Rural States are over represented in the electoral college.

The electoral college votes a state has are determined by the number of senators plus the number of members they have in the house of representatives.

As of 2010 the seven least populous states were Alaska, Delaware, the District of Columbia, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming. They represented a combined total of about 4million voters and 21 electoral votes. These 4 million voters carried the same weight as the 14 million voters in Florida who also were represented over 21 electoral votes. Thus, a vote in Florida carried about 1/3 of the weight of a vote case in one of the 7 most rural states.
