14 May 1948: State of Israel established

The state of Israel was declared on 14 May 1948, with the last British troops withdrawing from Palestine on 15 May (and Jewish forces controlling the areas allocated by the UN to the Jewish state plus other territories allocated to the Palestinian state, including: Negev, Galilee, West Jerusalem).
