Lucas uses a faulty way of identifying differences

The Whiteley sentence reveals a flaw in Lucas's argument relating to a problem of perspective (see detailed text).

Imagine a person who thinks his own superiority follows from the uniqueness of his point of view.

However, the fact that he can see things in a way that is different from everyone else doesn't prove that he is superior.

Anyone could make the same claim about their own point of view.

Douglas Hoffstadter (1979).
