The death penalty is the most severe of punishments

How can killing someone not classified as cruel or unusual. This line of punishment is not in sync with the rest of the US justice system. Eg. a rapist is not raped as punishment, and a bank robber is not robbed of their valuable possessions. The DP is cruel and unusual.
