Actions: Consultation on measures for service and device providers
In ongoing consultation with civil society, industry proposes self-regulation (by Nov.): Principles for the safer use of connected devices and online services by children.
These principles aim to create four key outcomes: end-user tools, public awareness, transparent information, effective and responsive mechanisms to report user problems.
Open issues: how to apply high level principles to diverse companies/sectors; how to ensure valid independent monitoring and compliance to reveal real improvements.
