W17: Spectrum for wireless innovation in Europe

In this workshop Digital Agenda stakeholders will discuss with key European spectrum policy makers what is needed to take full advantage of wireless innovation in Europe.

In this workshop stakeholders will discuss with key spectrum policy makers what is needed to take full advantage of wireless innovation in Europe. The workshop will focus on identifying spectrum priorities for wireless innovations in the fields of eHealth, Transport and Smart Grids as examples outside of wireless broadband as well as to assess progress and challenges in Europe. The participants will then discuss and agree on a set of "Stakeholder recommendations on the next steps needed to take full advantage of wireless innovation in Europe".

09:30h-09:45h Introductions

09:45h-10:45h First Session

Wireless Europe in 2020

In the first session, the discussion will be launched by an opening presentation that will focus on regulatory challenges resulting from innovative technologies and more intensive use of spectrum. Following the presentation, the spectrum policy makers on the panel will have the possibility to respond and to outline how future-proof spectrum regulation can be implemented.

11:00h-12:00h Second Session

Wireless Innovation

In the second session, stakeholders from the health, transport and utilities sectors will provide the participants with a particular point of view on the spectrum needs for taking full advantage of wireless innovation in their respective fields and show concrete examples of how wireless capabilities will make a difference for citizens and businesses in the EU.

12:00h-13:00h Concluding Session

In the final session, all workshop participants will be asked to discuss and agree on a set of "Stakeholder recommendations on the next steps needed to take full advantage of wireless innovation in Europe".

13:00h End

Prior to the workshop, the speakers from the health, transport and utilities sectors will provide draft recommendations. These drafts will be published on the Digital Agenda Blog, providing all Digital Agenda Assembly participants with the opportunity to comment on the texts before they will be finalised in the workshop.
