Banning the niqab is oppressive.

Oppress - to burden with cruel or unjust impositions or restraints.

What does 'oppress' mean?

to burden with cruel or unjust impositions or restraints; subject to a burdensome or harsh exercise of authority or power: a people oppressed by totalitarianism
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/oppress

Lets break this down: so oppress means to burden with cruel/unjust impositions or restraints -

First of all: women who choose to wear this in France have said that no one forced them to wear a niqab. Infact they chose to wear it out of their will. Among a population of 5 million Muslims only a handful of 2000 muslims wear the niqab out of their free will. Most of the women who wear the niqab in France are converts. No they were not imposed to wear it...........
Second on the flip side why are you imposing that they do not wear the niqab. To impose someone not to wear something of their choice is cruel & unjust & that is oppression.
Third many muslim women who choose to wear the niqab now will be oppressed by not being allowed in public places dressed the way they want too. This oppresses them more - they would proably choose to be indoors then go on the streets to enjoy their life.
