Benin

Benin is being compared to Cote d'Ivoire; a crisis borne from an election that both parties claimed to have won.

Despite the constitutional court ruling, hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Cotonou, the commercial capital, at the beginning of April, alleging electoral fraud. Police used tear gas and batons to break up the protests. But with Houngbedji insisting that he will not accept the election results, there are fears of further violence in the small West African country.
