Gathering, Managing and Sharing knowledge Map Home1 #59102
How will I (as an individual) gather, manage and share information in an era of Cloud-based services, the Semantic and Social Webs and touch-screen enabled, network-connected devices? |
Introduction I've started this map (May 2010) to explore a possible future for knowledge Gathering, Management and Sharing as individuals will practice it. This map is not about knowledge management by businesses. I think it's important to bring this out because of the rise of the Digital Inhabitant. The cost is now very low (once, of course, I have a machine and software and access to the Internet) to set up a home-base for my personal digital life, my own sites, including blogs and now difographs and other Cloud-based services. I (the individual) can therefore be responsible for gathering information from the river of information that's out there, managing it and then sharing it (or, more catchily, sort-and-report, although "curation" seems to have entered the lexicon.) Knowledge Gathering How do I gather the relevant information from the river of information that is flowing past me at high speed (which is connected to the Real Time Web), sort it for relevance and then produce some kind of ongoing report? Knowledge Management Once I have the information, how do I manage it effectively so I can find it again or it can suggest itself to me? I've come up with the term "skate-and-dive" to express something of what might be going on. That is, I skate over the surface of the knowledge until I get to where I want to to and then I dive into it. Knowledge Sharing I have knowledge I wish to share with others. I may share that by myself or use an information mapping company. This is such a big topic I have set up another map called "An alternative future for digital publishing?" with which to explore it. this version: February 9 2011. |
